Tonight I got one of my favorite dinners. For those of you not aware, Baja Fresh is an above average restaurant. There are many Baja Fresh locations, the food is pretty much the same from local to local, I like dependability.

The restaurant is clean and as always, really in good shape. I didn’t take any pics of the place, but I should have. Next time I’ll take pictures of the inside of the place.

Since the amount is pretty fair for the Baja burrito, the only extra for me is the enchilada style (which Baja’s receipt shows as “Enchilado”):

Something interesting tonight was the broken water faucet. Though I don’t get drinks at Baja Fresh when I’m taking food home, sometimes I’ll get a cup for water. I didn’t choose to get water this time, but did make mention that their water dispenser was perpetually on:

Baja use to have the nicest, thick white napkins. I actually had a co-worker that would stop by Baja Fresh once a week just to steal their napkins. He was Chinese and his mother (also Chinese) seemed to really have an obsession with their napkins. Things have changed though, as the environment changes so does Baja Fresh. No more nice fluffy white napkins, now it’s recycle time:

I chose to get the steak Baja burrito, and because I like the extra cheese, I ordered it enchilada style. If you haven’t tried it, you really should. The extra cheese and whatever-sauce is good and makes for a good meal that just requires a fork and knife:

Of course, I ate the whole thing and felt too full to move around, thankfully I had some Diet 7-up next to me so I didn’t need to get up and actually move around too much. This helped me to be lazy and just sit and digest food.

I wonder if its true that the body digests food better while sitting up than it does laying down.

For family and friends, I’ll start posting up pictures more often on my kid’s site. To the rest of you visitors, I’ll be doing a better job soon and hope that you find this site useful and informative, as well as worthy of being shared among your friends.

Here’s my car in a photo spread that I took a while ago. The pictures are available in their original version, just comment or email and I’ll make them available to you.

All pictures were taken with my Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi. I set the camera to auto but didn’t like the results, so I changed to manual settings and decided to not go nuts and take RAW images, but did leave the JPEG to max quality.

I went to the site and looked through the 6 traditional letters (shown below). I didn’t choose one of the Christian letters because I wanted something less serious, something my kid could understand and read without anyone’s help. Being 6 years old means that reading something on your own is more special than having someone read it to you.

First the order form. Quick and easy. After entering my name and address, I started making my choices.

I checked out the letters. They were short and easy reads. I could have just stopped at the first letter but decided to read them all.

Next was checking out time, but I got interested in the “good list” certificate, so I got that too.

The total seemed reasonable at this point, so I figured it was time to click the button and buy.

Order complete. Nice. Time for me to start counting the days down until my kid gets the letter from Santa Claus.

And a thank you to you too Santa!

Nothing is more adorable than a young kid’s belief in things pure and fun. That’s why Santa Claus and Christmas is so popular.

The reasons Christmas is popular in the United States are:

retail stores make cubic tons of money;

families have an excuse to get together;

people can be generous in giving gifts;

people will be receiving presents for just knowing someone;

adults can relive being children by continuing the story and beliefs;

parents can participate in the children’s fantasies of Rudolph and Santa and Elves.

Sure, there are more reasons. But this is a start.

As for this Christmas, I have already gone over budget and have only bought for a few people. This year I bought for myself too (Lego time!). Last year I bought myself the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi. For this year I was going to buy myself a higher end camera but instead settled on buying myself a lot of Lego train items (beware, Lego is suppose to be doing away with the 9 volt Lego trains).

Alright, I’ll share my Lego shopping list with you as long as you do me a favor. This is going to be one of those favors that actually should make you feel really good about yourself. You need to order a Santa letter. The process is easy and quick and you will be making some child (or children) very happy. This is sort of like my random restaurant thing, only I will feel much better about the Santa letter surprise.

Click on the Santa picture on the right and than follow through and send a letter to some kid that you know. Your own kid. A niece. Nephew. Neighbor. Some kid or adult even. This is a chance to send something unique that will continue the beliefs and happiness of the season.

If you are anti-Christmas, I do apologize that I don’t have any recommended anti-Santa letter to send, but you could still send a Santa letter and just think to yourself that Santa is just Satan spelled with a typo.

OK, now for my Lego shopping trip. Wait, you clicked and ordered the Santa letter, right? Well, do that first. Please. This is not a totally selfless act on my part, I’m not pretending that it is. Everyone is trying to earn money, and well, though I won’t be writing the letters you will be helping me pay for my Lego trains. In exchange, I will post pictures of my Legos.

Alright, Lego shopping madness. Click the image for a full size screen shot of my placed order.

I really like holidays. Well, there are some holidays that I might not be really excited about, but Halloween is definitely a fun one for me. I like the dressing up, the trick-or-treating, and seeing costumes. Also I get to dress up myself, which is sometimes fun.

Taking my daughter trick-or-treating is fun. But I will tell you that it’s a different type of time in 2007 than it was in 1987. When I went trick-or-treating, I remember saying things like “thank you” after receiving candy, but I might have overdone it when I was teaching my daughter good mannters. She walks up and says “Trick-or-treat”. No big deal. After receiving candy, she doesn’t say thank you, she ends with “Thank you. Have a happy Halloween.” Darn, those manners hopefully will last a lifetime.

Anyway, I dressed up with a mask and realized that there was too much of my skin color showing through the eye-holes so I bought some makeup. Yes. I wore makeup. It’s not the first time either, I wore some back in the 1980’s when my family dressed me as a woman for Halloween. That was wonderful, I think that I was eventually successful at destroying all photographic evidence of that event (I wasn’t cute, and no, I wouldn’t do me).

So enough talk, time for some pictures!

this mask was a little too uncomfortable to wear, it had a full foam pad in the back of the head

here I am at work, just a trial fit for the costume

here I’m posing with a co-worker, she seemed a little worried with me

a true friend and co-worker, she helped with my makeup and office decoration

not many people at work dressed up, but this lady did

seems that co-workers don’t mind standing near me when I have my mask on

I should have looked into charging for pictures taken with me – ha ha

well, not everyone was willing to stand too close to me

this young trick-or-treator warned me to stay away, apparently my mask scared him

I started coming at people and putting my hands around their necks, most reactions were jumpy

I do some stock trading and have a couple accounts in different places. One place that I have an account is Scottrade, and if they were to follow through with what their website reads, I would open up more accounts there. The problem appears to be a mathematical one, which I would love to cash in on.

In one of my accounts I just play with penny stock, which is a must have. If you don’t yet have a penny stock account, you must get one. It’s like playing the lotto but you have a better chance of making money. So, with my little gamble I thought that one day I might turn a penny into two pennies or maybe three.. never, ever, did I expect to see a gain in my account of such a monumental amount though.

I’ve traded small stocks that have doubled, but when you are working with a penny stock (or fractions of a penny) it doesn’t seem to make a big difference in the overall scheme of life. Once in a while a stock will double, but it’s usually a quick and violent move that has an equal reaction.

Some of the stocks I trade in my penny account are actually around a dollar, while some are $.0001 per share. That’s one of the stocks that seems to have a mathematical error in the value computation. The stock of which I own 9,000,000 shares should have a value of around $900.00, not nearly the almost $3 million dollars that it is.

Should I call Scottrade and try to cash out?

I took today off of work. There’s an appointment that I have in the city I live in, which is too far from my work for a quick drive back and forth during working hours (that’s over a 110 mile commute). So instead of spending half the day at work, I decided to take a vacation day. What do I do next? I’m working remotely.

Workaholic, that’s probably the term most used to describe me (at least when I don’t have my daughter). Workaholic is defined on Answers.com as: One who has a compulsive and unrelenting need to work. I’m not sure if I am a workaholic but it does define me pretty well.

What do you do when you have a day off of work but no family around to spend the day with? I logged into the servers at work (remotely) and checked log files, queues, backups, work email, and then started IMing with some people from work. I’m not doing a lot of work, but I am working.

In the background I had my TV on and during the first few hours I listened to CNBC (Squawk Box, Squawk on the Street). After those shows were boring and I finished my daily trading, I flipped through the stations until I found a movie that I haven’t watched in a long, long time. Before I tell you the movie, I want to share something and ask you all something.

If you have a DVD of a movie, and that movie comes on a movie station (like HBO or Showtime or Cinemax), do you watch the movie on the station instead of putting in the DVD you have of that movie?
What if the movie started like 5 or 1o or 15 minutes before you started watching?

The reason that I ask is that I started watching Princess Bride (you can buy it at BestBuy for $14.99 or Buy.com for $13.99) this morning. I didn’t watch from the beginning and actually only saw the last 15-20 minutes of the movie (right after Weslie is only kind of killed by Prince Humperdink), but instead of putting in my Princess Bride DVD which my sister bought for me years ago as a present, I just watched the last part of the movie and that was it. Even now that I’m thinking about it, I’m wanting to put in the movie and watch it.

So why not just put the movie in and watch it? I don’t know. Immediately after the end of Princess Bride on HBO I switched to Independence Day on Encore. It’s not even the high definition version. Why am I watching it, in the non-high def version? I don’t know. Maybe someone can tell me. Oh ya, and the TV watching thing I do, it’s a bad habit, but since I have the full compliment of stations on DirecTV I feel guilty if I don’t use them.

After my daughter started giving me a hard time for not being more playful first thing in the morning, I then decided it was time to head to the doctor.

I told a friend about the room spinning thing and he called his father, a doctor. Of course, when you listen to a doctor and you want to get good advice, make sure the doctor isn’t sarcastic. In this case, the doctor told me that I could have anything from an inner-ear issue to tertiary syphilis. Of coures, being a web geek to the n-th degree there I was, Googling tertiary syphilis. Just for those of you that don’t know me, no chance that I have tertiary syphilis or any syphilis.

So I updated my insurance on Tuesday, it took effect on Wednesday, and my doctors appointment was made for Friday. On Friday I went to the doctor. Tall man. Korean, I think. Easily could have been 6′1″ or 6′2″. Really nice guy. He asked me some questions, checked out my ears, listened to my breathing, then told me that I had some morning vertigo, it happens, and that I should just make sure to drink lots of water. When he went to leave he gave me a post it note with the name of an OTC (over-the-counter) medicine, named Meclizine. Meclizine is like Dramamine, without the extra side-effects. Doctor’s orders are I take the medicine the night that I awake with veritigo.

This is something pretty common. A friend’s mom had this. Just comes and gos for her, not a big deal. Another friend had this for a week a couple years ago, never again. Another person I know how has, it is one of the post-effects of having an anuyerism. Have you ever had morning vertigo?

I use to have a fish tank/aquarium. It was approximately 135 gallons and housed a relatively small amount of fish and sea life. Of course it was a salt water tank, or a reef tank. The tank was made out of glass, and that’s where I start my search for a new fish tank.

Glass or plastic? It’s not just a grocery store question. Actually, I guess that’s paper or plastic. Anyway, the question I’m first going to have to decide on is if I’m going to have a glass or acrylic aquarium. There isn’t a right choice, but there is a better choice for any situation. Some quick notes on each type:

Glass

Acrylic

Scratches

harder to scratch

highly scratchable

Weight

4-10 times heavier than acrylic

lighter than a glass tank, but overall weight comes from contents.

Breakable

a well placed object with speed will break the glass

harder than glass to break, but scratches will occur

Shape

stick with flat pieces, any curves will usually distort items

“bendable, foldeable, easily moldable” – Shel Silverstein

Support

because of overall strength of glass a stand does not require to support entire tank.

requires a stand the full size of the tank.

Strength

tempered/non-tempered; both will be thicker and heavier and not as strong as acrylic; drilling for overflow is not as easy

acrylic does not need to be as thick to support the same volume of water as glass; drilling for overflow is possible

Refraction

glass has a different light refraction than air and water, so looking through a glass tank at a fish is actually having light bent four times

acrylic has nearly the same light refraction as water, so looking at fish through the tank is only bending light twice

Clarity

usually does not change in clarity

with time and light being directed upon, yellowing or coloring will occur

Cost

easier to ship, usually costs less

more difficult to ship, will likely cost more

Looks like glass will be my way to go (I’m having to consider scratches and cost).

Next consideration is size. I’m going to be placing this tank on a second floor of a house, so I’m not looking to get something too big. My last tank was 135 gallons and with rocks and sand and water weighed approximately 1,600 pounds. Yep, you read that right. A 135 pound tank would weigh roughly 1,600 pounds when filled with water and some rocks. Pretty amazing. Anyway, that’s too much for my current place. Maybe a 50 gallon (600 pounds) or 60 gallon (710 pounds) tank will be enough this time.

If you have any recommendations, please let me know.

My search will start tomorrow, I’ll be looking online for deals along with in local stores and on eBay. I’m pretty sure that a used tank will work for me, as long as it’s clean.
