I've run into this problem with Outlook from versions prior to 2000. I'm going to state that Microsoft has this problem and the only fix is recreating accounts in every location.
Recreate the account on your local Outlook. Wipe out email account databases online, do what you need.
Mostly, just start using Outlook Anywhere if you need to use Outlook.

Good luck!

DMS....lets hope you can help. SAME error message as everyone else is showing - Yahoo email though. I tried removing account and reloading / closing and reopening. No luck. I only get the message AFTER i have waited 10 minutes for the emails to try and come in. I even disabled virus protection, cleared everything off of the server....you name it. Now....when I check emails in Outlook (2007), it just runs for about 10 minutes with nothing coming in. I personally think it is some sort of junk email stuck in between the server and Outlook. Any ideas?

Its been a while since this was written... I received an email today from someone I know that came across this same error. Amazing, this is still happening.... Guess it doesn't matter how old or new Outlook is, the problems still exist.

The email program has a memory, it marks messages as READ that are on the server if they are currently unread in order to better track, but besides that it's a program function.

Once the emails have downloaded once, they shouldn't repeat unless you create a new email account (essentially starting over again for the email program).

Another option would to create a folder online and have a folder that isn't the "INBOX", which email programs will not attempt to download email messages from.

What about downloading duplicate emails? I have around 3 GB of emails stored on my email server. Is there anyway of avoiding downloading all the emails which I already have downloaded on my PC?

Sorry Miguel, your comment slipped through my attention.
The answer is no, no emails got erased. If you are worried about that, you can make a backup of your email database though. When in question, make a backup! If you need more detailed work, let me know and I'll help you out with that.
